Things you need to know about hiring a boat in Sydney
What are the costs of hiring a boat?
The main cost is the vessel hire. Each boat has an hourly rate for vessel hire with a minimum of 3 or 4 hours.
Other costs included food, beverages, wait staff, wharf fees.
What is included in the vessel hire rate?
The vessel hire rate includes private boat hire, captain and marine crew.
Some boats include wharf fees in their vessel hire rate as well. Wharf fees are generally $30 – $50 per docking.
Can I bring my own food and drinks (BYO)?
Most boats allow BYO with a surcharge. This could be a flat rate or a per person rate?
A sufficient amount of food is required to comply with Responsible Service of Alcohol (RSA) obligations.
Where can boats pick-up from?
The boats can pick-up at most wharves around the Harbour including CBD, Eastern Suburbs, Inner West and North Shore.
CBD wharves need to be booked in advance, allowing boats a 15 minute time slot to board passengers.
Are kids allowed on board?
Absolutely. Any ages are welcome. We just need to know the ages so the Captain has the right life jackets onboard.
Can we wear shoes on the boat?
Some boats have a no shoe policy to protect the decks. Other boats allow shoes although they don’t allow stilettos or high heals to protect the decks and also for safety reasons.
Is smoking allowed on the boat?
Smoking is not allowed in the boat however some boats allow smoking on the rear swim platform when the boat is at anchor. Always ask the crew on the day.
Can we swim from the boat?
Yes, most boats allow swimming from the swim platform when the boat is at anchor. The Captain will determine the location for a swim and will advise when it is safe to enter the water. Please note, passengers under the influence of alcohol may be refused to enter the water for safety reasons.
What happens if it rains on the day of my boat charter?
Boat charters go out in all weather conditions, so if it rains it will still go ahead. We have had many cruises in the rain and although it is not ideal, guests still have a great time.
If the conditions are unsafe such as very strong winds, hail, etc the Captain will make a decision based on safety. This is covered in the terms and conditions when we send you the Booking Form.
Can I extend my charter on the day?
If the boat and crew are available and don’t have another charter after yours, then yes. Any extension will be charged to the credit card provided.
Can we play music on the boat?
Yes, most boats have a connection for smart phones, this could be by AUX or Bluetooth. Best to prepare a playlist for the day.
We can also arrange DJ’s on most boats.
How do I book?
We would send you a Booking Form to complete and a deposit is required. The deposit is 50% of the vessel hire. The full payment is required 14 days prior to the charter.
